New work available

Newwork

Hi!  I have been away from here for so long now! Finally I have uploaded some of my new work from the past few months into the shop.  I gave those on my mailing list a heads up and was really pleased that many decided to purchase.  There are 4 more canvases available if anyone is interested.  I may be away from painting for a while as I try to move into other mediums.....

Hopefully I can find time this week to update here on some new art & design finds too :)

Spring buds

Springbuds

Apologies for anyone who has emailed me and I have not got back to yet...I hope to answer my emails tomorrow!

I am off to USA this week for a fortnight road trip.  I was hoping to update the shop before I went but makes more sense to upload when I return to UK.  The 'spring buds' above will be part of the shop update, along with my other 2007 paintings on 5" x 5" canvas.  See more in my flickr set

If anyone is interested in being on my mailing list please email me at nebopeklo (at) gmail (dot) com.  I won't share your email address to anyone and will only send out emails when the shop is updated.

Hopefully I will come back more inspired than I have been of late and can return to posting here more regularly...

In 2007 I have been feeling like I want to branch out more (away from pen and ink) - textiles, wall graphics, letterpress....

Any advice?

lost.net.au/vic/ - Bend to Squares - Vic has frighteningly similar taste to my own.  I always love everything that she posts about and find myself thinking - oh i like that too!......etc etc etc

Ccloughley

Jewellry designer Claire Cloughley doesn't seem to have her own website (that I can find) but I found her through Glasgow's Brazen Studios

Another fantastic designer from Brazen Studio is Lina Peterson.  Lina mixes textiles, metals and plastics to create really original pieces.  Plastic dip coated metal...Gold plated crochet

A post wouldn't be complete without something from TopShop!  I tried this dress on a lunchtime today and the fit was quite strange but I am going back into town to try it on again tomorrow - I must have it!

....and it's still winter - cold and dark outside so put the heating on high and listen to David Byrne Radio.  He has a Scandinavian themed playlist at the moment...

Laura Lees

Have you ever bought an item of clothing that you bond with instantly and can't bare to wash it for fear of being parted and so you keep wearing it until it has food stains on it and you start to smell....ok maybe not that far but I bought a lovely embroidered blouse from the Laura Lees capsule collection for Topshop this week and I do want to wear it all the time.  It has little embroidered images in bright colours on black cotton which has an allover stitched leaf design -

Twinkie and Burrito

At very short notice (funds permitting!), Me and Gareth are going to California for a 2 week holiday in April!

To say I am excited is an understatement...I am beaming :)

My good friends are leaving Glasgow next week to live with family in CA for 3 months and then they will travel to Italy to work on an organic farm.  They had joked about us coming to visit them when they are in CA and we kept them to their word and at the moment we are frantically saving our £ to pay for flights to San Francisco.

Andy grew up in CA and has promised to show us the sites (our visit is too late for the 'testicle festival' - not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing hehe)

Planned itinerary (excuse myself in advance for my poor knowledge of geography!) -

1.  We will arrive after a 15 hour journey (Glasgow to San Francisco via Amsterdam) to stay in Carmel for a few days (the first day will be spent staring at a wall until the jetlag wears off).  Gareth has fantasies that he will step off the plane looking like Hunter S Thompson, but I imagine that the reality will be somewhat different

2.  Then up to San Francisco for 2 days - anyone have any recommendations - shops/galleries?

3.  We leave San Francisco for a road trip!!

4.   A huge long drive heading North - First stop is Portland Oregon.  Again any recommendations would be much appreciated.

5.  I might be getting the order of the locations on our trip mixed up but we will be making stops to visit -

6.  ...and stay a night in the Timberline Lodge.  We are huge fans of the film 'The Shining' and I shall be making a special Wendy Carlos CD for this part of the journey

7.  ...and a visit to Astoria, Oregon to remember another childhood favourite film - 'The Goonies'

8.  Then we travel onwards up to Seattle stopping to visit where Twin Peaks was filled - Snoqualmie.  Cue Angelo Badalamenti soundtrack...

9.  Ending the trip with a visit to Vancouver...phew!

Loads and loads of driving to get to these places but we are hoping to cram it all into 2 weeks (madness but it will be worth it!)

I always have such a romanticised view of the US, I suppose partly due to the dominance of American Cinema in my childhood (and adulthood).  Hence my excitement at visiting the locations of films - Stepping inside the TV?
It will be great to see and experience the 'reality' and have an adventure with my friends.

Some things I know I must do seem to revolve around eating food!?

  • Eat a twinkie (I know they are supposed to be disgusting but I have wanted one for about 20 years now!)
  • Eat a burrito!
  • Eat slice of cherry pie and a drink a 'damn fine cup of coffee!'
  • Seafood in SF

Any ideas or recommendations welcome :)
